If you’re running an ETC node, it is recommended that you use or plan on transitioning to Core-geth or Besu, which are actively maintained by ETC protocol developers.
Migrating from Parity (OpenEthereum) to Core-geth — Additional guidance.
Migrating from Parity to Core-Geth
Why Is This Important?
Hard-forks, features, and bug fixes will continue to be implemented in Core-geth and Besu. Using these actively maintained clients will help ensure proper operation of nodes as the Ethereum Classic network grows. OpenEthereum (previously parity) and Multi-geth clients will not provide ETC support in the future, after the next hard fork (not yet planned).
Is The Network Stable?
Yes. The network is operating normally and the node count is stable. The change in clients will not have an impact until the next hard fork (not scheduled yet).
What If I’m using OpenEthereum (formerly Parity) or Multi-geth Now?
Future releases of OpenEthereum and Multi-geth will likely not have ETC support or not be participating for the next hard-fork (which is not planned yet). Therefore, transitioning to Core-geth or Besu soon ensures you’re running supported ETC protocol providing software.
What if I am using Core-geth or Besu?
You do not need to do anything. Core-geth and Besu will continue to support the ETC network. We will notify stakeholders well in advance of any new release or update.
