As someone who likes to play video games religiously, I thought it would be fun to make my own.
I’ve been fascinated by the topic of video games ever since I was young. I was interested in how they make up a story, how they keep the player so engaged, how do they make the controller work in the game, etcetera, etcetera. As I got older, I was one of those people who mostly focused on STEM classes, I took all of the Computer Science classes that both my middle and high school offered. Still, having an interest in video games and computer science, I thought that I would finally get off my but and learn how to bring the two together and make my own video game!
The first thing I that any person would do is hop on Google and type:
“How to make a video game”
There, I found Unity3D, which is a popular game engine that might’ve made some of the games that you play on your computer, console, or even phone. After clicking on their website and exploring for a bit, I learned that they offer a game development course for sell on Udemy, a program that has lessons up for almost about anything. I bought it and it was actually easier then I thought it was actually, after completing the how to make a 2D game part of the course, I had an idea that popped up into my head and I went for it.
About three months later, I finished the game. It’s called PaperJump and it’s actually available right now on Google Play for free.
If you’re starting out in coding, I’m going to tell you, the readers, now to try to learn new things in that subject. There are so many ways to create something with code like a video game that I made or website for a family friend. I think that independent developers are one of the most creative people that I’ve ever met, they find a problem and search for a solution or they have an idea and they strive to complete it, like me and my game. In the future, I hope that I can make more games and put them up for multiple people to play.
