Leading mixed martial arts (MMA) institution, Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC®), and Web3 sports media network, Blockasset, announced a new global marketing partnership this week, making Blockasset the first Official Digital Fan Interaction Partner of the UFC. The Blockasset platform — which creates athlete content, provides fan experiences, and manages sports-centric products — is governed by its sports fan community and is built on the Solana blockchain.
The partnership seeks to leverage fan interaction to drive brand awareness for Blockasset, and increased user engagement on Blockasset could lead to more discussions and awareness about Solana within, and outside, the blockchain community. Blockasset’s use of Solana’s technology serves as a showcase for what can be achieved on Solana, potentially attracting attention from other sectors interested in blockchain solutions, which could lead to more widespread adoption of Web3 technologies overall.
Professional Recognition
The Blockasset/UFC alignment comes as no surprise, as the Web3 sports hub has previously partnered with UFC celebrities such as welterweight champion Leon Edwards, middleweight champion Dricus du Plessis, light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira, and former middleweight champion Michael Bisping, in addition to many others.
Bobby Evans, Co-Founder of Blockasset, shared, “This is a milestone for Blockasset. Working with UFC has been our north star since inception in 2021 and this dream has been made a reality by becoming the Official Digital Fan Partner. The partnership will unlock new access to experiences for our global community within UFC events worldwide.”
Additionally, Lead Strategic Advisor of Blockasset Joe McCann shared, “Blockasset has a clear mission to create value for fans and athletes through blockchain technology. Now, as the Global Digital Fan Interaction Partner, they get the opportunity to deliver their innovative suite of products that complement UFC's brand and help drive more value to fans through Web3 technology.”
Inside the Partnership: A Template to Follow?
Blockasset’s platform activities generate transactions on the Solana blockchain. Each user interaction, such as buying digital assets, participating in fan experiences, or engaging with athlete content, contributes to the overall activity on Solana. Additionally, increased activity from Blockasset users directly utilizes the Solana network, increasing the total number of transactions processed.
As far as the partnership goes, the world-famous Octagon® will now include Blockasset branding during some Pay Per Views and Fight Nights, which typically receive views from over 700 million fans across 170 countries, not to mention the roughly 975 million households and countless bars and restaurants that have UFC channels on their televisions.
Perhaps one of the most exciting outcomes of the Blockasset/UFC alliance is the promise of new original content from the pair, which will be internationally distributed to over 260 million viewers through UFC’s digital and social platforms.
As Blockasset attracts more users, these users become part of the Solana ecosystem. With these highly-anticipated advancements showcasing how blockchain can greatly enhance fan engagement and content distribution, Solana could use Blockasset’s partnership as a case study to attract other sports and entertainment brands.
Activation Timeline
Blockasset will further activate its collaboration with UFC this weekend on June 29th, when the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas hosts Alex Pereira and Jiří Procházka’s 2nd fight in a bout for the light heavyweight title during UFC 303: PEREIRA vs. PROCHAZKA 2. Throughout the likely-electrifying rematch, Pereira will defend his title against former light heavyweight champion Procházka.
Successful large-scale projects attract developer attention, and if Blockasset’s partnership with UFC proves successful, it could inspire other developers to build on Solana, knowing it can handle these types of high-demand applications.
By being associated with successful projects, Solana positions itself as a blockchain of choice for other high-profile collaborations with real-world applications. This may lead to future partnerships with projects built on Solana, enhancing its position as a trusted leader in Web3 tech, furthering a more vibrant and diverse ecosystem of dApps on the platform.
