The footballing powerhouse that is the Premier League has officially announced a new partnership with NFT brand Sorare, as their fantasy football-style card trading game secures official licensing from the English top-flight division.
The deal means that Premier League superstars from all 20 of the clubs currently in the league will feature in the game from Sorare, with team badges, player likeness and accurate stats being translated into playing cards for each unique player. A digital version of trading cards or sticker book collecting for those who used to swap with friends on the school playground, this is an example of the latest crossover from football into the growing world of NFTs and cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin.
Teams like France and players such as PSG forward Kylian Mbappe have already publicly backed the platform as a partner. Outside of football, basketball and baseball have gotten involved with the ambitious project too, with the NBA and MLB also partnering up with Sorare. Across Europe, leagues such as La Liga, the Bundesliga and Seria A have also partnered with the NFT trading game that is said to have made a multimillion-pound agreement with the FA Premier League for a 4-year deal.
The partnership promises to be the biggest acquisition for Sorare so far, with some of the best-known names in the global sport plying their trade in the FA Premier League. Erling Haaland, Mo Salah, Marcus Rashford and Harry Kane to name a few. These will all of course feature in the game which, like with trading cards offline, will feature some cards being more rare than others.
The game allows users to compete against friends, creating a fantasy five-a-side team of Premier League footballers. Each player has a unique rating that helps the owner of that card win or lose, and prizes are built into the game. This includes tangible prizes, such as match tickets to witness the Premier League in person.
Outside of sports, crypto casino websites are also on the rise with hundreds of online casinos offering the chance for players to use cryptocurrencies to place bets and win more of their currency of choice. When it comes to entertainment, gaming and sports, we are seeing more and more the presence of NFTs and the use of blockchain technology every day, with the companies who build their businesses on them having considerable sway when it comes to landing reputable brands and big-name partners.
