Well, satoshis.place enables you to purchase space on the virtual, communal canvas pixel by pixel. It is an application based on top of Bitcoin blockchain network.

Satoshis.place is actually a layer 2 application on the Bitcoin blockchain network. It leverages Lightning Network protocol. The Lightning Network was launched in January 2018 and has grown exponentially since then. It enables people to send small amounts of bitcoin instantly with basically no fee.

So basically if you go on this website, you can draw whatever you feel like and pay for the your drawing in Bitcoin. Once your payment is confirmed, your drawing on the communal canvas would be immutable; that means it will be recorded on the bitcoin blockchain!

So, I drew something stupid and this is my drawing:

I covered canvas worth 5395 satoshis with that blah design. The app then generated an invoice for me.

5395 Satoshis are worth around $0.211 USD.

This invoice would stay valid for 10 minutes.

It’s a cool way to experiment with bitcoin blockchain. It reinforces the point that R&D in blockchain sphere is progressing at an astronomical rate. Till yesterday, people said you can’t buy coffee/pizza with bitcoin. However, the reality is different today. Thanks to the Lightning Network.
