- Donald Trump plans to fight government budget overspending
- He intends to cut $2T from the $6.5T budget
- To do this, he proposed the Department of Government Efficiency
- The assumptions have come true, it will be headed by Elon Musk, as well as Vivek Ramaswamy
Donald Trump plans to significantly reduce the tax burden of Americans, allegedly cutting 2 trillion dollars from the state budget in a series of initiatives to investigate fraud and review mandatory spending.
For this purpose, he proposed the creation of the Department of Government Efficiency, which was supposed to be headed by Elon Musk in the case of Donald Trumpâs victory in the US presidential election 2024.
On Tuesday Donald Trump announced the creation of the Department of Government Efficiency and appointed Elon Musk as well as Vivek Ramaswamy to lead it.
More About Department of Government Efficiency
The essence of this initiative is that Donald Trump is calling for a review of mandatory government spending as well as an investigation into possible fraud and government corruption.
In his statement, he said:
âTogether, these two wonderful Americans will pave the way for my Administration to dismantle Government Bureaucracy, slash excess regulations, cut wasteful expenditures, and restructure Federal Agencies.â
He also quoted Elon Muskâs words regarding the initiative:
âThis will send shockwaves through the system, and anyone involved in Government waste, which is a lot of people!â
Vivek Ramaswamy also commented separately and quite sharply and briefly:
âSHUT IT DOWNâ
Many question the conflict of interest given the majority of Republicans in both houses and the obvious benefit to Elon Musk. But his candidacy could technically be justified, as it is his effective approach to building his own companies that made them key to the economy of the entire US.
Vivek Ramaswamy, on the other hand, is a slightly more unexpected candidate, as he has previously opposed Trump, and may seem even more controversial due to his radical statements as the head of the FBI, the Department of Education, and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.
Since the announcement did not give much detail on what steps Donald Trump is considering, we can go back to his earlier statements in which he makes it clear that he has major doubts about how fair and transparently the current government works:
âAs the first order of business, this commission will develop an action plan to totally eliminate fraud and improper payments within six months. This will save trillions of dollars.â
Also supporting this thought was Elon Musk, answering Trump-Vance transition team co-chair Howard Lutnick about how much can actually be cut from the state budget:
âWell, I think we could do at least $2 trillion.âÂ
Moreover, in his speech at the Madison Square Garden rally in New York City, he complemented Trumpâs distrust of how fairly and efficiently the government is using taxpayer money:
âYour money is being wasted, and the Department of Government Efficiency is going to fix that. Weâre going to get the government off your back and out of your pocketbook.â
However, the realism of this is doubted by many analysts and government figures, such as Hubbard, a former chairman of the US Council of Economic Advisers in the George W. Bush administration, said at the Economic Club:
âItâs just mathematically impossible to find $2 trillionâ
And whatâs more, some have doubts about how sincere this initiative is and American Federation of Government Employees National President Everett Kelley said:
âElon Musk and Donald Trump care about one thing: lining their own pockets. Not government efficiency, and certainly not making things better for everyday Americans.â
Conclusion
It is worth recognizing, that Donald Trumpâs decisions have never been uncompromising, often met with much criticism, and the realism or even sincerity of the initiatives is constantly questioned.
Is this necessary? Of course, thatâs how the system of checks and balances works, providing a constant assessment of both the fairness of the current provision and the most seemingly noble intentions.
Is it deserved? We have yet to find out.
Also, regarding Elon Musk, is it a coincidence that among the candidates for effective managers was the one who revitalized and optimized as never before the entire space industry and beyond? Obviously, not coincidentally.
Could he have a personal interest in all these initiatives, which at some point may no longer be mutual with the average American? That probably remains to be seen as well.
Be aware, and stay tuned.
