Blockchain tech is massive in South Korea, a country known for its obsession with cutting-edge technology. South Korea’s strong engagement with digital assets makes it one of the leading Web3 hubs globally.
ICP Korea HUB, has been at the forefront of building a dynamic Web3 ecosystem in South Korea. Let’s dive into the projects that showcased their developments during the Chain Fusion Day.
Chain Fusion Day, Korea Blockchain Week 2024
Piggycell: Expanding the Charge-to-Earn ecosystem
Piggycell, a DePIN project, showcased its Charge-to-Earn (C2E) ecosystem. With over 3 million users and a significant market share, Piggycell plans to launch a Battery Swapping Station (BSS) for electric motorbikes by the end of 2024. On talking about the benefits of the ICP ecosystem, Piggycell stated, “ICP network is solid and reliable in security and speed so that it can provide real-time mining experience to C2E users”.
Save the Life: Using blockchain for healthcare
Save the Life Foundation aims to improve healthcare by collecting, analyzing, and indexing medical data on ICP. The SL Protocol stores de-identified medical imaging data, making it easier to integrate AI-based healthcare data.
Save the Life emphasized how ICP helps them manage large datasets while maintaining privacy. “With ICP’s high processing speed and scalable environment, the SL Protocol leverages the network to store de-identified medical imaging data, including DICOM metadata and hash values. This capability aligns perfectly with SL’s vision of integrating healthcare AI data on-chain.”
Sela Network: Decentralizing data collection
Sela Network is working on a decentralized data layer that tackles the limitations of Web2’s data collection systems. The project utilizes ICP’s infrastructure to provide an open and accessible data environment for AI agents and other services.
Explaining why Sela Network chose ICP for its infrastructure, “We chose ICP because it offers great features that align well with the characteristics of DePIN. Given the nature of DePIN, it’s crucial for our service to operate seamlessly on users’ devices, and ICP enables canisters to run without user-side gas fees, which is very attractive. The low cycle cost is also appealing. Additionally, the ability to run canisters over HTTPS was a major factor in our decision. Finally, ICP promised to support us as the first DePIN project on their platform, which was a decisive reason for our choice.”
YourD: Redefining Digital Identity Management
YourD is building a platform that gives users control over their digital identities using decentralized identity (DID) technology. Certified by W3C and the European Blockchain Services Infrastructure (EBSI), the project integrates Chain Fusion technology to enable identity management across multiple blockchains.
“ICP’s scalability, security, and cross-chain capabilities were key factors in our decision to build on their platform. These features allow us to provide a unified and secure experience for managing digital identities across various blockchains,” the YourD team shared.
The platform is already seeing significant growth, particularly with its YourD Pay service, which has over 50 vendors onboard in Korea.
Nebula3 GameFi: Enabling multi-chain gaming
Nebula3 GameFi focuses on transforming indie games into GameFi projects, reducing development time and costs. Leveraging the Chain Fusion tech stack, Nebula3 offers multi-chain functionality, allowing gamers to move assets across different chains.
“Nebula3 GameFi leverages ICP’s Chain Fusion technology to enable multi-chain functionality, providing gamers with the benefit of freely moving their assets. This is particularly advantageous for a platform service company like ours that offers multiple games, allowing us to integrate various games and offer gamers a more flexible gaming environment. Additionally, the reverse gas model is a powerful feature that further enhances the freedom and flexibility of the gaming experience for our users.”
The Korea Blockchain Week (KBW) saw an exciting lineup of discussions and networking opportunities for the ICP community. The event in Seoul brought together over 600 industry leaders, innovators, investors, and policymakers from around the world.
ICP Korea HUB also had several activations — by hosting developer workshops, training sessions, hackathons, and more, they’re spreading the word about the technology and its potential. They are helping talented developers and projects find their place within the ICP ecosystem, playing a key role in expanding Web3 across the region. Get in touch with ICP Korea HUB on X.
