In a recent development, the Dogecoin Core is expected to undergo another major upgrade that is important to the wellbeing of the network. The upgrade will introduce some major fixes, with the main one being to increase trust in the system, by not allowing the addition of malicious code or for an entity to take over the network.
Protecting The Dogecoin Core
In a recent development, develop @chromatic_x on X (formerly Twitter) took to the social media platform to announce an upcoming upgrade for the Dogecoin Core. This upgrade, known as the Dogecoin Core 1.14.8, will allow for better safety when using the network.
According to the Dogecoin developer, the upgrade is important because auditing every single line of code is not possible, especially not by one person. This means that users of the network, like other networks, have to put their trust in others as they use the network. But how is this trust guaranteed to not harm the users?
This upgrade ensures that a malicious client cannot make its way into the network to do a number of things. This includes clogging the network, destroying things already built, taking over the network, or revealing the identify and private keys of users.
So in the case of the latest upgrade, different developers are having to carry out the compilation process in a bid to ensure that they come up with the exact same output. Coming up with the same output means that the client works the way it is supposed to, ensuring that while users are having to trust people, they do not have to do so blindly.
In the post, the developer revealed that the launch of this upgrade is imminent now because it has passed the stage where multiple developers have been able to get the same output from running the compilation process. Thus, it is not far off as reproducibility has been achieved.
The Dogecoin developer warns that this process does not mean that there will be no bugs or flaws. “We can’t offer you a guarantee of perfection. Software is too complex for that. We can’t afford that as an industry,” the developer said. {We can offer you transparency, however. That’s a price we’re always willing to pay.”
Fixing Previous Issues
While the current Dogecoin Core upgrade could come with its own bugs and problems, its implementation is important as the developers move to fix bugs in the previous version. In addition, the Github outlines system fixes will be carried out, as well as test fixes.
Some of the fixes outlined include updating the CI, as well as a TxRequestTracker fix. Also, pinned dependencies updates are expected, with other maintainer tasks following the upgrade.
