DOGE surges with BTC & ETH traded steadily during Thanksgiving
Dogecoin (DOGE) has risen nearly 50% since last Monday and continued the upward trajectory during the U.S. Thanksgiving holiday celebrations. As for the largest crypto by market cap, Bitcoin (BTC) has been holding steady around $16,000 for the past three weeks, although it has once dropped to below $15,500 because of the aftermath of the FTX meltdown with fear that crypto trading and lending firm Genesis Global Capital will be the next fallen giant. BTC is now trading at $16,214 by the press time. Meanwhile, Ether (ETH) is now at $1,175, up 2.7% while other cryptos were mixed, with Solana (SOL) growing by 3.3% to hit $14.08 at one point last week. For the 24H gainers on Poloniex, they are SUSHI/USDT, HFT/USD, XEN/USDT, DOGE/USDCD, MASK/USDD and ONSTON/USDT.
So what happened this week?
Poloniex committed to security, the founder of TRON applied to contribute to Binance’s recovery fund
To curb the potential “cascading effects” of the FTX meltdown, Binance has established the Industry Recovery Initiative (IRI), a new co-investment opportunity for organizations eager to support the future of Web3. Initially, Binance will commit $1 billion to IRI-themed investment opportunities in the hopes of ramping up the amount to $2 billion in the future if the need arises. According to Binance’s press release, so far, Jump Crypto, Polygon Ventures, Aptos Labs, Animoca Brands, GSR, Kronos and Brooker Group have all committed to participating with an initial aggregate commitment of around $50 million with the expectation that many more participants will join the “cohort”. According to TRON weekly, H.E. Justin Sun, the founder of TRON, has submitted an application to contribute money to the IRI. Meanwhile, Poloniex took prompt actions after the fall of FTX to ensure their full commitments to providing users with the most secure crypto trading platform.
Demand for fan tokens surges alongside the World Cup 2022
The World Cup is off and running in Qatar. To commemorate, Poloniex invited Chiliz, the blockchain infrastructure provider for the sports and entertainment industries, for an AMA to talk about how Web3 can bring football fans from around the world together. For the World Cup 2022, this is the first time that the international sporting event heads into Web3, as FIFA, the international governing body of the World Cup, has launched its own NFT (non-fungible token) platform, and the demand for the official fan tokens of the national teams of Argentina, Portugal, Brazil and Spain, etc have seen a surge ahead of the World Cup, according to CoinDesk. As for the aforesaid tokens, $ARG and $POR are listed on Poloniex. Although the creation of fan tokens is mainly used for interacting with fans, the prices of some fan tokens fluctuate based on match results. For example, the price of $ARG token has dropped by nearly 30% after Argentina lost 2–1 to Saudi Arabia. Meanwhile, the $POR price stands above its $4 support level since Cristiano Ronaldo is the captain of the national team.
