Weekly Spotlight: A chat with talented NFT Artist — DefoQ 🔸
Most people assume that being an artist means you are completely introverted, love being alone and live a rather boring life but this is certainly not the case with NFT Artist — Nino (aka DefoQ).
From being a party hopper to a travel enthusiast and a gym buff, Nino certainly does not match the stereotype. He’s full of life, creativity and vigour!
We caught up with Nino and had a very vibrant chat with him. Let’s go through the conversation together, shall we?
Can you tell us a bit about yourself and your background?
My name is Nino Bolink from the Netherlands. I studied Industrial Design Engineering at the University of Twente and I’m currently in love with 3D art and NFTs.
As far as creativity goes, it pretty much runs in the family! Whether it is 3D, drawing, painting, graphic design, music, industry, it’s all there. Sooner or later we all found our own passion.
Would you describe yourself as an introvert, extrovert or a mixture of both?
I’d describe myself is an extrovert.
I love going places, meeting new amazing people, going out, hitting parties and in general just having fun! I spend a lot of time on 3D modelling and art, which is pretty much me listening to music and working, but in the weekends I love to do random stuff and spend time with friends & family.
What do you love most about art?
The awesome thing about art is that there is no limitation. You can do and make whatever you want, no limitations whatsoever.
Got a random idea you’d like to show the world? Fine. Grab your art tool and have at it! It’s awesome to show people a little insight in what happens in your brain, especially if the skills are there to get the message or idea across.
Furthermore, art connects people. They make you think about certain things and share opinions and ideas with each other. It is capable of building a community where you meet new amazing people, can make new friends and talk about anything and everything. Art can be a conversation starter and introduce new ideas and thoughts to whoever is interested. Art is awesome.
Who do you look up to in the art community?
Barrow. I’ve followed Barrow for a long time. He has an incredible style and makes amazing art. His collection is called “Dreamy Trip” and each piece shows a small world or environment with different elements and events. They are absolutely stunning. An incredible artist with huge potential.
What’s the source of your inspiration?
My inspiration comes from loads of things. I’ve made pieces inspired by standard objects you buy in shops. For example, a hourglass, lightbulb, lantern and a puppet. Other ideas come from random thoughts during brainstorm sessions, or even ideas that were inspired by my community.
The most random idea for a new collection came from a puppet actor in a theme park called “Walibi World” in the Netherlands. His performance was awesome and the whole setup looked incredible. His performance inspired my Marionette Maniac collection, which will be launched in the near future.
How did you get into NFTs?
Derek got me started in the NFT world. He invited me to NFTb when it was starting up and I’ve been in the NFT world ever since. It allowed me to spend more time on my passion, develop my skills and show my work to a large audience.
I’m incredibly thankful to Derek for getting me involved in NFTb and the NFT world in general, as it offered me a completely new perspective of “do what you love and you’ll never work a day in your life”. Which pretty much turns out to be completely true as long as it comes with the whole — being able to pay your bills — situation.
What NFT project are you currently working on?
I’m currently involved in three NFT projects, which will also be my max. regarding time investment. The NFT project that will be launched first, is a collection on NFTb under the name “Sounds and Scenery”. It is a collection of MusicNFTs where me and my incredibly talented brother collab on Music NFTs. I’m involved as a 3D artist, and my brother as the Music Producer. It is a project where we try to match stunning environments and moods with incredible music.
What makes this project different from every other project out there?
This project includes both sound and art. We match music to visuals and the other way around to get an awesome Music NFT that each send different vibes and moods. One Music NFT will also be released in 10 different parts, or 8 music beats. The music in each part of the NFT will be a specific part of the song, and collecting all parts will give you full ownership of the tune & Music NFT.
What do you do outside being an NFT Artist?
I love to go out, party, dance, hit the gym, play games, drive around in my American old-timer, spend time with my awesome GF, watch movies and make road trips.
What is the one thing that people would find surprising about you?
I finished University by creating a coating (surface layer) on Hip Replacements that would significantly increase the durability and time before failure.
If you could have any super power what would it be?
Alright hear me out on this one. I’d love to have the power to breathe underwater, it somehow sounds awesome to me. Just exploring the parts of the world that are the most unknown and discovering new stuff.
Now that I think about it I’m not that keen on encountering weird new animals, so I’d like to change my answer to Earth Bending, avatar style. That would most certainly open up a lot of possibilities.
Did you know? Apart from the sold out collection Mugshot Maniacs, DefoQ has other interesting collections on his profile.
