Brave Browser is on a quest to overtake Google Chrome, but does it stand a chance? Here’s everything about their latest milestone.
User base doubled for fifth consecutive year
Decentralized web browser Brave announced that they have reached 50 million active users as per their year-end report, published on their website. The browser’s user base has doubled for the fifth year in a row.
Brendan Eich, CEO of Brave, said:
Passing 50 million users is a tremendous milestone for our company. It is also a powerful confirmation of the global movement underway led by users seeking alternatives to the surveillance economy. We’ve spent a successful year expanding our product range and our ecosystem, engaging with partners who share our vision for a Web free from Big Tech’s shackles.
Still far behind Chrome
Although these numbers are impressive, especially considering Brave was founded just 7 years ago, they are still very far behind Google Chrome and its 2.6 billion monthly users.
Differences with Chrome
Brave’s browser is not only more private, but also lets users choose how they interact with ads. They can choose to switch them off entirely or earn rewards in Basic Attention Token (BAT/USD) for viewing them.
BAT powers a new blockchain-based digital advertising platform designed to fairly reward users for their attention, while providing advertisers with a better return on their ad spend. Advertisers can deliver targeted ads to maximize engagement and cut down losses due to ad fraud and abuse.
Busy year for Brave
In 2021, Brave added several new partnerships and projects, like their new search engine beta and Solana (SOL/USD) DeFi integration.
BAT price movement
The live Basic Attention Token price today is $1.13, down 13.16% in the last 24 hours. Its struggles are shared by the vast majority of cryptos, which lost value based on Fed minutes. The crypto market is overwhelmingly in the red today. Still, BAT has not lost as much as many other coins and it’s at a far stronger place than where it was 3 months ago, when it was trading below $0.70 cents.
