The inaugural European Internet Computer hackathon will award up to $160,000 in prizes.
The DFINITY Foundation is excited to announce an inaugural European Internet Computer hackathon for students and early-career developers in partnership with Encode Club, a global developer community working with 150 universities worldwide to educate the next generation of blockchain developers. The total prize pool for the October event is up to $160,000.
The hackathon’s theme is Reimagining the Internet, challenging participants to build exciting decentralized applications and novel use cases on the Internet Computer, an infinite blockchain that serves web content directly to end-users.
Don’t have experience building dapps on a blockchain? Not to worry! You can find educational resources created for university students here. Prior to the hackathon, we will also host a series of online events throughout September to familiarize participants with the Internet Computer, including AMAs, introductory presentations, and informational events. Details will soon be announced!
Hackathon Overview
The hackathon begins on Wednesday, October 6 and lasts until the end of the month on Sunday, October 31.
Under the theme of Reimagining the Internet, teams of 1–6 members will develop a project that adheres to one or more of the following tracks:
- NFTs
- Gaming
- Social Media
If you want to build a project outside of the three categories above, you are more than welcome to do so!

Who can enter?
The hackathon is aimed at students, early career developers, and hackers based in Europe. At a minimum, at least one team member needs to be based in Europe.
Prizes
The total prize pool is worth up to $160,000:
Grand Prize — up to $50,000
The winning entry receives:
- $25,000 (in fiat or USDC)
- Up to $25,000 in a developer grant award as part of the DFINITY Developer Grant Program
Runner-Up Prizes — up to $110,000
Four runner-up entries will receive:
- $2,500 each (in USDC) — $10,000
- Up to $25,000 each in developer grant awards as part of the DFINITY Developer Grant Program — $100,000
